An Athlete’s Handbook to Dealing With Leg Cramps and Muscle Spasms at Night or During Exercise

Performing to the best of your physical abilities for any sort of extended period of time is something that will almost always lead to some sort of aches or pains later on. Often times, muscles that have been stretched to the limit will uncontrollably begin contracting in a very painful manner. These muscle spasms may come in the form of leg cramps at night while you are sleeping, an unexpected spasm of your hands or feet while writing something down or doing any number of other simple activities, or even a sudden cramp during an actual game or event. It is important to know what to do to deal with the excruciating pain during the cramping and the soreness left behind, but it is even more important that athletes know how to prevent these painful incidents altogether.

Stretching before performing any sort of physical activity is an absolute and well-known necessity. It is also extremely important that you slowly bring your exercising to a halt rather than suddenly stopping. Temperature plays an important role in this “warming down” process, so you will want to avoid taking a cold shower or splashing cold water on your body after intensive exercise as this will almost certainly lead to some serious muscle cramping later on. You need to make sure that your body is properly hydrated before strenuous physical activity if you want to prevent muscle spasms from occurring during the big game, but there is also quite an interesting Amish formula that an athlete can take right before going out on the field or right at the start of muscle cramping.
