Its been a long time coming ladies and gents but finally all of us underwater enthusiasts can enjoy our music just as clearly as those who take their fitness regimes by running. Yep! The waterproof MP3 player is here to help us rid ourselves of the boredom of exercising at the local pool. Here are a couple of the options you might consider.
Iriver now make a model that sits in a case that protects the player while submerged, it is very reasonably priced compared to other models that are similar and the construction is very solid. The headphones are also obviously waterproof and the unit is given power using one 9v battery.
This particular waterproof MP3 player is compatible with both WMA and MP3 files but it falls a little short on battery life with only around 4 hours of continuous play per battery. The memory on this system is also lacking a little if you are into long distance swimming or diving for example with only 128MB. A good plus point is the FM tuner so that you can listen to your favourite radio station if desired.
The Iriver is a great choice for pool swimmers or a day out at the beach but for serious swimmers the Swimp3 is likely a better choice.
The Swimp3 is, unfortunately not a touch screen MP3 player but this is the only point we can really fault with it. The memory is extremely high, 1GB to be exact which will give you around 15 hours of play without hearing the same song twice. The sound is transmitted to your ears via what is known as ‘bone conduction’ which means there is actually no need for waterproof headphones. The unit simply clips to your goggles and rests on the cheekbones.
The Swimp3 is also MP3 and WMA compatible and has the advantage that it can also be converted for iTunes. iTunes ready would be better of course but at least the option is there. With double the battery life of its competitor (8 hours) this is the obvious choice for those who spend many hours in a watery surrounding and love their music.
