Use Concrete Paving Slabs on Your Patio

Posted by Theo Williams in Home

If you are interested in building a patio in your backyard then there are a few different materials that you can construct it out of. One of the options is to build it out of interlocking brick; this can look very nice but it will be expensive. A cheaper option is to use concrete paving slabs. Whether your backyard currently is made of dirt or grass, concrete slabs are one of the easiest patio foundations to install. You can lay them down quickly and then move onto more important things like where you are going to put your barbecue.

The average concrete paving slab is no longer than three feet in diameter and no more than 2 inches in height. These slabs are created by manufacturers through the process of squeezing concrete together. This removes the water content and leaves just a flat brick of concrete. Because concrete is affordable and the process is not overly complex, these slabs are affordable for almost anyone interested in doing a little backyard renovation.

Concrete paving slabs are popular because they are easy to install and light on the wallet. The amount of slabs used in your project is now limited only by the number that you want to use as opposed to the budget you have set aside for the project. This means that you could use them in multiple places in your backyard. You could create a main patio by you backdoor and then another one around the pond you build with a preformed pond liner.

Despite their low cost, there are still many artistic applications if you are inclined to do something out of the ordinary. While working at a garden center I saw many interesting designs created with these slabs. An interesting one involved leaving spaces between the stones for grass to grow. I recommend experimenting with your own ideas.
