Mother of The Groom – The Role Of Hers

Posted by Theo Williams in Relationships

So you don’t know what the role of the mother of the groom is, right? Interestingly, despite the fact that weddings are very important events in the lives of people of even our modern society (which tends to stray away very far from the traditions of the past anyway), not many people can confidently say that they know how these weddings should be conducted if we were to follow these traditions of the past. The role of the mothers of the grooms, though, have never been set in stone of the past traditions, so maybe in this case people can justify their ignorance, but our article will try to give you a few guidelines that can help you understand her role a bit better.

The following statement, however demeaning it may sound to some, pretty much describes the role of the mothers of the grooms – “she should wear only beige color and keep her mouth shut”. Very simple, yet effective in explaining the nature of this character. Of course, you should not just memorize these as some kind of dogmas and rules, because they are not – there are hidden principles behind those lines, and those principles are the ones that you should focus on.

The first principle correlates to the “wear in beige” part, and the principle basically says that you should not dress better than the bride. In the past it meant to never wear the white dresses, as other colors were not really allowed probably, but nowadays due to the latitude in the wedding garments you should just take this part as “choosing the mother of the groom dresses that do not upstage the bride’s one”.

The keeping the mouth shut part basically means that the mother of the groom is a supportive character in our story. She should help her kid to organize the wedding, but she should not impose her preferences or force his mind to change if he doesn’t want to. If he decides to buy only cheap bridesmaid dresses, but the mom doesn’t like the idea of going cheap on the wedding garments than the ultimate decision is, unfortunately, made by the groom (and the bride). She should just silently agree with whatever her kid decides on.
