Do you care about mother nature? Is the harvesting of the world’s rainforests something that sets your teeth on edge? Well there is something you can do in your every day life that is not only a better alternative, but also environmentally friendly!
That thing, is great Audiobooks. Audiobooks are, without a doubt in my mind, one of the best ideas in the history of mankind (with New Punjabi Songs ranking as a close second!) They are far superior to reading paper books in many way.
Firstly, like I mentioned, they are an environmentally friendly alternative. Did you know there are over 100, 000 new books are published annually just in the US and 300,000 plus worldwide. Add ontop of that the 225 billion pages of editorial content and convert that into trees. In short, it is a LOT. Imagine if even half of those books were instead listened to, it would be enough to change the world I think.
Add to this the fact that you can listen to an audiobook while doing monotonous or rote task like chores, walking for exercise, driving to and from work etc. They can make those painful parts of your day something you actually look forward to.
Author Stephen Fry even mentions in his most recent autobiography that audiobooks helped him loose weight by making long walks less dull. Instead, try and imagine how successful he might have been if he had tried walking while reading paper books.
Then there is the added advantage that you simply don’t need to carry the book with you, which can lighten up the load on your back and shoulders and help save you from those costly chiropractic bills which we all dread to think about.
If that isn’t enough, there is the simple fact that the people who read audiobooks are expert readers and better able to really bring characters to life than you or I might be.
Save the Environment, buy audiobooks!
