Why You Need A Website For Your Music

Posted by Theo Williams in Arts

I love music. I listen to music regularly, and am still a strong believer you should buy some one’s songs. I also love independent music, but some independent musicians make it so hard to do so…

Look at any big name musician you can think of. If you were to go online right now and do a search for their name, what’s the first thing you’d find? That’s right, their official website. Do the same for an independent musician and what you you find? Probably their MySpace or SoundCloud page if anything. This really frustrates me. A lot of musicians know the importance of having a online presence, but often don’t know how to go about getting one.

When it comes to doing music and promoting it online, it’s important to have your own website as a central point for your fans to come and visit. There are lots of guides online which show you how to build your own website, so you can have your own one up and running for cheap in maximum half an hour.

Once you’ve got your website up and running, you’ve so much more opportunities available to you. Instead of having to rely on other people’s websites who end up not being used any more (Myspace for example) you’ve got a place where you can always refer traffic to and get people onto you list.

If you ever want to get to the point where you’re collecting music royalties, you need to ensure you build up a strong fan base. They don’t even necessarily need to buy your music, but if they request it on radio it’ll get more plays. If it gets more plays you get more royalties. This is just one of the many reasons you should set up your website as soon as possible.

So if you make music and you haven’t got a website then get on the case!
